Collections & Samples
The Taï Chimpanzee Project is a long-term project with well defined data collection protocols, which are implemented since decades (read more about the protocols). During this time we have constantly increased the data set, including behavioral, demography, ecological and climate data, biological and environmental samples, and others.
Over the last years researchers and research bodies have invested less and less into data collection and more and more into data analysis of existing data. This shift from data collector to data user has led to a lack of original data sets to test new hypotheses. This Crisis of Original Data will be in the future exponentially multiplied by AI data mining techniques.
Original Data are a precious commodity. Therefore, you need to provide a proposal of the research you would like to conduct with the data. This is to exclude overlap with other projects and the use of the data will be limited to this project. In the end the director of TCP is responsible that the chimpanzees of the Tai National Park are the first beneficiaries of any research coming out of TCP. The survival and the intactness of their cultures is the first goal of our work!
