First Annual Symposium of the IRL ChiMP4IC - save the date Oct 21, 2026

The International Research Lab on Chimpanzee and Monkey Protection for Intact Cultures is starting an Annual Online Symposium Series. The 2026 theme is: Primate cultures, human evolution and conservation: building a collaborative research agenda for West Africa.

This online symposium will include three panel discussions led by international experts in the field:

(1) Primate behaviour and the evolutionary roots of human culture, with Tatyana Humle (U of Kent, UK), Kathelijne Koops (U of Zürich, CH), Julia Fischer (U of Göttingen, GER), Catherine Crockford (CNRS, F) and Karim Ouattara (UFHB Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire).

(2) Human-Primate interactions and anthropogenic change, with Vincent Leblan (IRD, F), Kimberly Hockings (U of Exeter, UK), Didié Armand Zadou (UJLG Daloa, Côte d'Ivoire), Edward Debrah Wiafe (U of Environment and Sustainable Development, Ghana), and others.

(3) From behavioural diversity to conservation action, with Papa Ibnou N'diaye (UCAD, Senegal), Anderson Eloi Bitty (UFHB Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire), Rachel Ashegbofe Ikemeh (Niger Delta Forest Project, Nigeria), Lydia Luncz (MPI EVA, GER) and others.
